To achieve the global Net Zero goal by 2050 and mitigate the planet's serious environmental problems, minerals will be required for renewable and green energy technologies. Peru is a major mining country; however, in recent years, several mining investments projects have been severely affected by a lack of political will, obstacles and excessive permitting imposed by the government, socio-environmental conflicts, and other factors. The objective is to analyze how the strategy for promoting sustainable mining investments influences the competitiveness of the mining sector in Peru. The materials and methodology are based on consolidating lessons learned from previous studies (1990-2025). As a result, the assessment of the dimensions of the sustainable mining investment promotion strategy (international environment, governance, and lessons learned or knowledge) is presented, along with the competitiveness index (ICSM), which at the close of 2025 shows a value of 62% (average and decreasing rating), leading to conclusions and recommendations to take advantage of the strengths and opportunities of higher international prices and demand for minerals that the world will require in the coming years to boost clean and renewable energies, resuming the promotion of sustainable mining investments and the competitiveness of the Peruvian mining sector, with proactive participation from the state and the actors involved.
